Doggone – Part 2

Doggone – Part 2

This is a continuation of Doggone – Part 1.

The first problem I had was him using the doormat as a bed. The pavers are cold so I reckon he was just more comfortable there. But it’s awkward for getting in and out of the property. He was also using that as a launching platform to get inside. It’s also where I stash my pluggers in a hurry which has proved too tempting for him not to chew on. Then he also started eating the mat. So… I got him a dog day bed to lie on. Here’s a link if you’d link to buy one.

The dog bed is great. It keeps his body off the cool pavers. I normally put one of his blankets on there so he can sleep there and snuggle if he wants. I have it placed under a table so even though it’s big it doesn’t take up any extra space. He’s also out of the way when he rests there and there is nothing valuable he can easily chew to death.

Travelling

The nature of work and lifestyle is that I’m home most of the time but I do a lot of small trips in the car. I really didn’t want him going all through my car and pissing on the seats. He’s way too small to travel in the tray of my ute. So I bought this cleverly designed dog car seat cover.

Dog Car Seat Cover

Here’s a link to the dog car seat cover on Amazon if you want to get your own.

It comes with a seatbelt tether that easily attaches to the collar to stop him jumping into the front of the car. I put this on the first few times. I can now do small trips with him untethered and he stays seated on his own accord. I’m aware that it’s safer for him to be tethered though so generally I have him tethered down in case of an accident.

He hasn’t had any “accidents” and we have done a couple of long trips already. I always put in some sheets or towels just in case but he hasn’t gone in the car once. That said I’ve been really diligent with toilet training. It seems to be working well for now. I will say he doesn’t seem to like it that much. People have told me that puppies don’t like travelling in the car because they get car sick. He hasn’t vomited or anything. But he just doesn’t seem to like it that much. I think it’s better than leaving him at home alone though.
