I believe in creating solutions for people to be able to help themselves out of a crisis. Like the age old axiom, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” This is far more difficult but more rewarding and beneficial.
The vehicle I use to this is a PBI charity I founded in 2012. Liberty Enterprise‘s continuing mission is to support the most vulnerable members of our community. Liberty Crisis Support is the charity component which assists people in need that no one else can or will support. If the person can obtain support from some other service we will refer them there. We have over 25 requests for support from people in extreme crisis situations each and every month. (If you would like to support us so we can support these people you can do so here).
We operate a social enterprise which directly assists these crisis clients. This program is called Liberty Services.

We also offer general garden maintenance services such as lawn mowing, edging, rubbish removal and other services.
The large range of services means that we can employ a diverse range of people with mixed skills according to their current ability. Some people prefer outdoor work and others prefer indoor work. Some people are just desperate for any work and will do anything to get themselves out of crisis.
This is the most practical solution to help someone in need that I have discovered. If someone is struggling with housing then you could focus on getting them somewhere to live. But if provide employment they can simply find somewhere themselves and rent a place they choose.
Some issues go far deeper so while providing employment we simultaneously offer counselling and coaching services to help them overcome these other barriers.
